About Design Challenge
In the world of rapid digital interaction, IoT can play a pivotal role in realizing an efficient, safe and sustainable place to live and work for peoples.
In Malaysia, there are more than 50 IPTA (Public University) and IPTS (Private University) and thus making our local universities safer and smarter should be put in priorities to protect and safeguard our new generations.
Besides, smart campus is essential to foster the academicians and students to achieve their teaching and academic excellence and realizing Malaysia as regional IoT development hub. With smart-campus IoT technologies, managing facilities, lighting, parking, and transportation could be more intelligent than ever.

Smart Campus Theme
Participants can propose their innovative design based on the smart campus theme. Some of the examples but not limited to focus areas listed below:
Smarter Transport and Parking
Intelligent parking management and parking services through Wi-Fi or sensor-enabled technologies. Optimizing vehicle route using video surveillance and real-time vehicle telemetry to ensure students stay safe.
Smart Lighting
Connected lighting in classrooms or across campus to reduce carbon footprint, increase productivity, and ensure student safety within campus
Connected Classroom
Bring all forms of access, communication, entertainment, and operations together on a single innovative platform for enhancing the teaching and learning experience.
Smart Facilities
Securely gather data from students and staff to create insights to improve experiences and optimize services, safety, space management, and asset utilization.

What is the minimum number of people in a team for this challenge?
Each participating team shall be led by one lecturer with a minimum of one student and a maximum of five students. One lecturer is allowed to lead multiple teams.

Are there any registration fees needed to join this event?
There is no registration fee to participate. However, all expenses (e.g. cost of travel to/from the competition venue, solution item etc) or cost incurred will be beared by your team.

How will the Design Challenge be conducted in terms of pitching and judging? Will there be any online judging involved?
There will be a pitching and judging session in June 2018. As of now, no online judging will be involved. Please make sure your team attend the judging session. Date and location will be advised soon.

I would like to inquire whether the output of the project should be presented as miniature form or implemented in a actual building? Please do clarify about that.
If you have the IoT hardware, you can present it as a miniature form over the booth. Or else you can implement it anywhere and you don't need to present the hardware over the booth. If you happen to only utilize the API over the Service Exchange platform, you can simply have your slides and laptop to demo it.

What is next after registration during the period of time before the competition commence? Can I get access to the platform (OIP)?
You can start with your idea, concepts and software development. As for the services that will require our OIP platform (IoT part) to your respective account, it will only be given after 30th April 2018. However, you can use our demo account as practice.

What can be claimed with the RM500 starter funds?

I will be on internship program for my next semester. Is it possible for me to participate in this competition?
It is advisable for you to discuss with your lead lecturer. However, if you are really keen to participate, please make sure that you will be made available for attend the pitching and judging session in June 2018. Date and location will be advised soon
